This article presents the methodology for the selection of information systems\u27 development in enterprises. In order to consider the need to complete up with special insights of other experts and to support this complex decision-making problem, it is based on systems thinking and the methods that have been most preferred for multi-criteria decision-making in the last two decades. To determine the criteria\u27s weights, the methods based on interval (SWING, SMART) and ratio (AHP) scales were found more suitable than SMARTER that is based on an ordinal scale. Direct input, pair-wise comparisons and value functions were used to measure local alternatives\u27 values. The article offers an original explanation how to create piece-wise linear value functions. Experts in a Slovenian company that applied the above mentioned computer-supported methods evaluated them as excellent tools in requisitely holistic decision-making about further information systems\u27 development

timulated with the firm belief that environmental management helps enterprises to achieve business success, expressed by a majority of managers in the sample enterprises, we present the results of an empirical study in the Slovene processing industry. The purpose of our research work is to identify, analyse and present the importance of the environment in business decision-making, the role of environmental management in strategic decision-making and its distribution across the business functions; environmental performance in business processes; the use of the methods for environmentally oriented business decision-making and the developmental tendencies of environmental management in Slovene enterprises of the processing industry. We define the key drivers of environmental management and their effect on the environmental behaviour of these enterprises. We present and interpret data indicating that environmental management is caused not only by compliance and regulation, but also by competition and enterprises’ own initiative

Multi-criteria decision-making methods for complex management problems : a case of benchmarking

    Get PDF
Because multi-criteria decision-making methods have already turned out to be applicable in business practice, they are given special attention among several approaches that help decision makers solve complex problems. The author offers a critical overview of these methods, together with an evaluation of adequate computer programs. Moreover, the multicriteria method for benchmarking of environmentally oriented business processes is developed and presented with a real-life case from the Slovene enterprise in the processing industry. The approach is delineated into steps. In this method, the analytic hierarchy process technique is usedtogether with other decision-making tools, it is suitable for benchmarking in order to help in decision-making about business process reengineering and selection of new production processes

The multicriteria method for environmentally oriented business decision-making

Stimulated by the expressed managers’ need for some completed methods for environmental management in enterprises, we present the method for environmentally oriented business decision-making. It is based on simulations where optimization models of business processes are used as scenarios. The possibilities for an integrated approach to environmental protection are introduced and – decomposed according to the type of the considered element by using zero-one variables – included in the optimization models. The method is completed for multicriteria decision-making where in the simulations obtained optimal values are included. In a real-life case where the Analytic Hierarchy Process technique is used to evaluate environmentally oriented business processes, special attention is given to criteria and weights: we consider preferences and survey findings on the environmental impact of business processes in the enterprise, survey findings on environmental management in the processing industry, and ecobalances

Considering Interactions among Multiple Criteria for the Server Selection

    Get PDF
Decision-making about server selection is one of the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) processes where interactions among criteria should be considered. The paper introduces and develops some solutions for considering interactions among criteria in the MCDM problems. In the frame procedure for MCDM by using the group of methods, based on assigning weights, special attention is given to the synthesis of the local alternatives’ values into the aggregate values where the mutual preferential independence between two criteria is not assumed. Firstly, we delineate how to complete the additive model into the multiplicative one with synergic and redundancy elements in the case that criteria are structured in one level and in two levels. Furthermore, we adapted the concept of the fuzzy Choquet integral to the multi-attribute value theory. Studying and comparing the results of the example case of the server selection obtained by both aggregation approaches, the paper highlights the advantages of the first one since it does not require from decision makers to determine the weights of all possible combinations of the criteria and it enables the further use of the most preferred MCDM methods

In this article we present the analysis procedure for environmentally oriented business decision-making in business processes. It is based on simulation with optimisation models that are used as scenarios in current decision-making. The particularities that menace successful application of direct sensitivity analysis are introduced. The decision-making method is presented with a practical case from the Slovene company

The SEM Model of Better Workers’ Life in Companies

This paper seeks to build a model of the aging workers’ work-life quality and analyze the effect of its factors on the work engagement of elderly workers. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the effects among seven constructs. The results show that the effect of the occupational stress of elderly workers on their work engagement and work satisfaction is negative, and the effects of the friendly working conditions, maintenance of work ability, and training programs on the work engagement of elderly workers are positive. The results show that the effect of health promotion in the workplace for elderly workers on their work satisfaction is positive, and so is the effect of work satisfaction on work engagement. The findings of this research can help employers better manage elderly workers and create a healthy and safe work environment for them. A better environment leads to higher work engagement of elderly workers

The Model of Friendly Work Environment for Older Employees in Slovenia

In the context of demographic changes and active aging in the workplace, managing age diversity contributes to creating new perspectives across the entire field of human resource management. The main objective of this paper is to determine the impact of appropriate working conditions and training programs for older employees on the work motivation of older employees, as well as to determine the impact of work motivation on the work engagement of older employees in Slovenia. In the medium-sized and large companies that were involved in the research, we surveyed employers and older employees: in the questionnaire, employers indicated their agreement to the listed statements about appropriate working conditions and training programs for older employees, and older employees indicated their agreement to the listed statements about work motivation and work engagement. Structural equation modelling has been proven useful in exploring the links between these four constructs. Results show that appropriate working conditions and training programs for older employees have a positive impact on the work motivation of older employees and that the work motivation of older employees has a positive impact on the work engagement of older employees. The Appropriate Work Environment for Older Employees: The Case of Slovenia

    Get PDF
Background: The increase in population life expectancy in developed economies is also reflected in the aging of the workforce; therefore, enterprises should create an appropriate work environment for all employees, emphasizing the older ones. Objectives: The major objectives of this paper are to establish the impact of appropriate working conditions and training programs for older employees on their work motivation, as well as to establish the latter\u27s impact on the older employees\u27 work engagement in Slovenian medium-sized and large enterprises. Methods/Approach: Structural equation modeling explored the links between four constructs – appropriate working conditions, training programs, work motivation, and work engagement. Results: In Slovenian enterprises, appropriate working conditions and training programs for older employees positively impact their work motivation. Moreover, the work motivation of older employees positively impacts their work engagement. Conclusions: These findings can be useful for employers or managers for developing targeted employee motivation and employee engagement programs to leverage the talents and dedication of older employees
